How to play Go Fish
Goal
Collect books: all four cards of one rank. Whoever lays down the most books wins.
The deal
Everyone is dealt 7 cards with two or three players, or 5 with more. The rest is the pond, face down. Lay down any book you hold straight away.
On your turn
- Ask any other player for a rank you already hold at least one of.
- If they have any, they must give you all of them, and you ask again.
- If they have none, they say “Go fish”, and you draw from the pond. If it’s the rank you asked for, show it and ask again. Otherwise your turn ends.
- Whenever you have all four of a rank, lay the book down in front of you.
Running out
- If your turn comes with no cards in hand, draw a fresh hand from the pond and play on. With the pond empty too, you’re out for the rest of the deal.
- The deal ends when every card is in a book.
Winning
Each book is worth a point, and the most books wins.
Variations
Picked in the lobby before the game starts.
- Deals: 1. Books are added up across them. The host can also choose 3 or 5.
- Lucky catch asks again: On. Fishing up the very rank you asked for gives you another ask. Off, your turn ends after you fish, whatever you draw.
